The Best and Worst Flowers for People with Allergies

Brighten up your home with safe flowers.

There’s no better way to turn a house into a home than adding luscious plants and beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, those who suffer from allergies may not always enjoy the presence of flowers that cause a running nose, itchy eyes, and uncontrollable sneezing. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some allergy-friendly plants out there to incorporate in your home. Take a look at some of the best and worst flowers for people with allergies.

Top flowers for people with allergies:

  • Roses: Luckily, roses are one of the most popular flowers, and they don’t affect people who suffer from allergies. The pollen particles of this plant are larger than the particles found in other flowers, which means they are too heavy to travel through the air and spark an allergic reaction. Whether you pick up a bunch of yellow or red roses, know that these beautiful flowers can be incorporated into your home safely.
  • Cacti: Cacti may not be the first plant that springs to mind when you think of houseplants, but they are making a comeback in modern homes due to their low maintenance. What’s more, they are a great choice for people who suffer from allergies because they have a very low pollen count!

Worst flowers for people with allergies:

  • Daises: A bunch of daises may look delightful, but often leaves allergy sufferers, well, suffering. Daises have a high pollen count and can quite quickly cause an allergy flare-up.
  • Sunflowers: Unfortunately, this bright and happy flower should stay out of your home if you suffer from allergies. Keep in mind that some people who suffer from pollen allergies may also be allergic to sunflower seeds, which means their reaction could be more severe if they come into contact with the seeds.

Suffering from pollen allergies isn’t ideal, but that doesn’t mean you need to give up having flowers in your home.
