Health Screenings to Schedule for Men’s Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month – Time for a Check-Up

Although we all know how important wellness exams are, most men neglect going to the doctor. Since June is Men’s Health Month, now is the perfect time for males to make time to schedule a physical. Scheduling a wellness exam is the first step toward prevention. During the wellness exam, you will have your health and family history reviewed, screening exams performed, and vaccinations addressed. Here are a few health check-ups to consider this Men’s Health Month! Age 18-49
  • Blood pressure should be checked every 1-2 years
  • Diabetes screening every 3 years if you have no symptoms and normal blood pressure
  • Tetanus vaccine every 10 years
  • Colorectal cancer screening if you have certain symptoms of a family history
  • HIV screening for anyone at increased risk at routine exams
  • Cholesterol screening age 35 and older every 5 years; younger if increased risk of heart disease
Age 50+
  • Blood pressure should be checked every 1-2 years
  • Diabetes screening every 3 years if you have no symptoms and normal blood pressure
  • Tetanus vaccine every 10 years
  • Colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy every 10 years, flexible sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, or double-contrast barium enema every 5 years- talk to your doctor about which test is best and the frequency
  • HIV screening for anyone at increased risk at routine exams
  • Cholesterol screening age 35 and older at least every 5 years; younger if increased risk of heart disease
