Distracted driving accounts for 58 percent of all accidents involving a teenager. Phones should be put in the center console to not even tempt the youngin: out of sight, out of mind. And be sure to practice what you preach. Kids learn by example, and they won't take you seriously if they see you on the phone when you drive. (Also, it's illegal in most states!)
- Limit the Passengers While They Drive
Having other teens in the car can put young drivers at risk due to the distractions and the added peer pressure. Talk to your children and their friends about the rules when your teen is driving and limit the number of passengers they are allowed to have in the car, incrementing it slowly as they prove to be responsible drivers.
