1) De-Clutter
One of the best ways to get your home in order is by going through your belongings and donating or discarding the things you no longer want or need. Make sure you pay attention to the storage areas in your home. Focus on your closets, garage, attic, pantry, and so on. Not only will you be getting rid of clutter, but you will also be creating more storage space for the things you do want to keep.
2) How do you choose what stays and what goes?
Remember the 80/20 rule. We usually use the same 20% of our belongings 80% of the time. So, if you don’t use it, ask yourself… does this have a strong personal sentimental value to me? If not put it in the “go” pile. For those paper items like old credit card statements, receipts, and other bills create their own file for each. To deal with newspapers and magazines, set an expiration date for them. Once they’ve exceeded this date, promptly file them in the recycling bin.
3) Donate
Have a list of charities where your unwanted items be can be donated. Once you finish an area, gather everything in bags or boxes for easy drop off. Remember to get your receipt!
