Get involved and educate yourself by training at a Citizen Police Academy near you.
The Citizen Police Academy is a program designed to educate the public about how the local police department operates and dedicated to helping build rapport between citizens and officers. In Austin Texas, the program takes place over a fourteen-week period, with weekly classes covering the various units within the police department. Graduates of the program will emerge with a better understanding of everything the police department handles and how officers work hard to keep their local communities safe.
In addition to the program in Austin, there are also Citizen Police Academies in the cities of Lakeway, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Buda, Pflugerville, and Bastrop just to name a few. While the overall goals of each program are the same, please keep in mind that the course schedule and timeline will vary for each city’s Academy.

Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy are invited to join their respective city’s Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association. These non-profit organizations are dedicated to supporting their local police department through volunteerism and community outreach.
