Find out how you can get involved this National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Breast cancer remains one of the most devastating diseases in the world. Every year, an estimated 252,710 American women and 2,470 American men are diagnosed in breast cancer. This October, celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by learning more about the disease and getting involved.
What is breast cancer?
Normally, cells grow to a certain size, do their job, duplicate themselves, and then repeat the process. However, cancerous cells grow and replicate uncontrollably, creating malignant masses known as tumors. When cancerous cells develop in in the breast tissue, this is known as breast cancer.
How can I get involved this National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
This month there are countless ways to get involved. For instance, you can donate to legitimate breast cancer research initiatives or support foundations. For instance, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., and Susan G. Komen for the Cure are just a few of the amazing foundations and charities you could donate to this month. Additionally, you can get involved by participating in or volunteering at the many different fundraisers and events that are held throughout the month. For instance, Susan G. Komen hosts their event “Race for the Cure” all throughout the country and The American Cancer Society hosts their “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.” Participating in one of these events or the many others like them, is an awesome way to show your support in the fight against breast cancer!
This National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, do your part to end breast cancer and together we can find a cure!
