How to Take Care of Your Pets This Holiday Season

Our tips on how to keep your pet healthy and comfortable during the festivities.

The holidays are a busy time of year for us all – in between the parties, gatherings, shopping for presents, decorating, and working, you may always feel as if you’re on the move. This change and upheaval of routine can actually be quite stressful for pets, so it’s important to remember our useful tips to keep them safe, comfortable, and healthy.

  • The oils in fir trees can be mildly toxic for pets and cause stomach upsets. Keep pets away from the tree, if possible.
  • The strings of fairy lights are tempting chew items for pets. Place them out of reach and always turn the lights off when leaving your pet unattended.
  • Don’t give in to those puppy eyes. Pets can get ill from chocolate, coffee, bones, grapes, onions, nuts, and raisins. If your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t have, take them to the vet as soon as possible.
  • Clean up wrapping paper quickly after presents have been opened.
  • Keep toxic plants away from your pet’s reach, including poinsettias, mistletoe, and holly.
  • If you’re hosting celebrations, exercise pets before the guests arrive so that they are less likely to be stressed.
  • Create a safe and quiet place for your pet to relax away from the party.
  • Give your pet a festive treat! They don’t have to miss out on all the festive cheer.
